Frequently Asked Questions

When did you start writing?

I honestly can't remember a time that i wasn't telling stories. But my first short story was my Freshman year of highschool. I wrote some poetry back then too. Then another short story somewhere around 2003-ish. A book during that time and then Nursing School and the ED took over my life. I started the KableVerse during Covid as a bit of creative escapism. And here we are.

How do you come up with this stuff?

Kable's story was born of an afternoon with family, bouncing off each other with an idea. "What do you think it would be like to have a lightning bug familiar?"

And then , what if he was was from Louisiana? Oh, what if he had a top hat? Oh, what if...what if...what if? You get the drift.

How do you come up with characters?

I have been fortunate to know or meet more people than most will ever in a lifetime. Little pieces of each of them leaves an imprint on my psyche. Mostly they're just people, not a person. I will say that Kable showed up and started telling me her stories. She dances across my mind, singing songs and weaving spells in ways I only wish I could. She distinctly has my sarcastic, ironic voice, but manages to soften herself in ways I find admirable.

How many books will there be?

I wish I could tell you. There will be as many as it takes for her to finish telling me the story. At the moment I've loosely planned 12, am writing 10 and editing 6 now. Those are just hers. Stasia has 2 (1 that I just finished writing), there's a trilogy about the Murphys, I just finished a stand alone that promises to be a lot of fun. And then there's the short stories.

Do you plan out everything before you start?

No. I tried that once because I was trying to "do it right." Turns out, the way I do is perfect for me. It's hard to plan it out in advance when someone else is telling you the story. Just like when you're watching a movie or listening to a friend and you think things are going one way, but wait...there's more and everything takes a hard left.

What's you favorite character?

They all have special places in my heart. Have to say Jekyl and Hyde are pretty close to my heart. I also LOVE Miasma. But truthfully, even the ones absolutely awful ones are treasures because they make the stories what they are. I do despise Taffeta. ;)

That's pretty much what I get asked the most. I do my own covers. I edit so many times it makes my brain scream. And I found a site that lets me publish to most of the mainstream sites. I can't imagine a day when I won't write any more. I hope my wildly colorful, loud, and fantasitcal hallucinations entertain and make you ask what the hell is wrong with her.

PS: If you like Supernatural, you might check out The Murphy Rule (it's kinda zesty though). Don't say I never gave you anything 😎

Todays muscial accompaniments: A Lot More Free, Bloodline, & Blue Strips. 💙
